Passion & Positivity vs. Pipe Dreams and Pessimism

Last summer as I was transitioning from teaching fifth grade to sixth grade mathematics, I decided to learn more about Google’s Sketchup (Elementary 3-D Modeling Software) to integrate it with my geometry unit. After much determination, frustration, and a good friend’s guidance, I was able to become proficient enough in the program to where I could easily use it in the classroom.  It was also convenient because the majority of our students had been exposed to Sketchup in our school’s computer class during fifth grade. We had students ranging in novice level to expert when it came to the program, which was a HUGE help for peer tutoring.
